Paco de Lucía,el gran guitarrista flamenco, fue el que importó el cajón peruano, de Perú a España después de una gira por latinoamérica. Ahora ya es un instrumento fundamental en el flamenco, con ligeras variaciones sobre el original, como el uso de cuerdas en el interior, llamándose en España “cajón flamenco”.
