La campaña “Tu Rock es Votar”, destinada para promover el voto joven, fue un factor determinante en el resultado de las elecciones presidenciales en México durante el 2006. Irónicamente, esta elección dejó a la juventud mexicana más desilusionada que nunca. Felipe Calderón Hinojosa triunfó sobre su contrincante Andrés Manuel López Obrador por un margen tan pequeño que el partido de este último solicitó un recuento de los votos, mismo que nunca fue realizado. De una u otra forma, la nube negra que emsombreció estas elecciones dejó un sabor amargo en la boca de muchos mexicanos.

Just over a quarter of Mexico’s 127.5 million people are aged 18-24, and as such the “youth vote” could easily make or break any candidate in Mexico’s upcoming election on July 2. Patterned after the “Rock the Vote” campaign in the USA, Tu Rock Es Votar is running a television, radio and web campaign that hopes to improve voter turnout in the Mexican youth population despite a general desencantado (“disenchanted”) attitude found amongst all eligible voters.
