Luis López Nieves' short story, "Seva: A History of the First American Invasion of the Island of Puerto Rico in May 1898," first appeared in the newspaper Claridad in 1983, creating controversy when many readers believed the fictionalized events were factual. The documentary Seva Vive [“Seva Lives”] examines the ensuing debate about such topics as Puerto Rico’s identity, culture, and history.
